Located in the beautiful Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia, Deb McBride first starting working with dogs and their people in 2003.
Like most dog people, Deb grew up trusting the dog more than she did the human family. Later in life this translated to having two shared dogs with her husband that kept the relationship together, they were able to separate only once the dogs died.
It is widely accepted that we can love dogs and that this is normal, even though we might be loving them at the exclusion of letting humans in. However, Deb could smell a rat with this and was not prepared to stand by and watch her fellow humans exclude actual love and intimacy from their lives by keeping a dog as a substitute.
Deb is consistently refining the relationship with her dog but never at the expense of loving the humans in her life. Deb’s love of true intimacy prohibits her from expecting her dog to love her – a dog is not capable of the depth of love that a human is and nor should they be.
Their job as a dog is to be loyal, attentive and responsive and our job is to make sure they can be the best dog they can.
Deb adores dogs, they make us laugh continuously, they make us smile, they bring joy to everything they do, they are naturally harmonious and this is a huge inspiration. Never has Deb confused this with love and this is why Harmony 4 Dogs is great at offering true support for dog folk.
Although the work has always been based on energy first the way the work has been presented has evolved over the years. When Deb first started presenting this work she was influenced by how other people around her saw dogs and the ways in which others worked with their clients. After some years of conducting workshops and sessions to make everyone feel better about themselves and their dogs, the approach shifted considerably to become much more ‘ordinary’, less emotionally charged, with less wow! factor and therefore more practical and accessible for all people. It is also incredibly enjoyable and life changing.
